1.Mission Statement:- The Making Music Workshop is designed to bring a real musical experience to the people of Northern Ireland while maintaining the ethos that learning can be fun. It provides access to learning and experiencing musical performances through the delivery of a range of high quality music services. The delivery of these services is linked to a commitment to work with local partnerships to enable them to provide musical experiences for the people of their community
2. Policy Objectives:- The primary policy objectives of The Making Music Workshop are:
- To develop the provision of music tuition in a group environment and promote
appreciation of music in local communities.
- To provide opportunities for musicians to learn and experience performance from experienced professional
musicians while maintaining the ethos that learning can be fun.
- To enable musicians to develop their creativity through composition and improved musical ability and
offer them a chance to record their efforts.
3. Privacy & Use of Student Information:- We treat all information given to us by students as strictly confidential. The information provided by the registration form is stored in a database and used solely for the purposes of offering interested students the opportunity of taking part in workshops and Making Music Workshop events. Filling in and sending the form does not oblige the sender to take part in any activity nor does it imply or guarantee a place on a workshop event.
4. Equal Opportunity & Community Relations:- Our workshops are always oversubscribed and therefore students
are selected from a list of those interested and available for the duration of the event. The selection criteria we use are based upon our obligations under section 75 of the Northern Ireland Act 1998, specifically, we will not
discriminate on the basis of sex, religion, age, political opinion, disability and those with/without dependents.
5. Use of Photographic/Videographic material:- There is
evidence that some people have used public events as an opportunity to take inappropriate photographs or film footage of young and disabled people in vulnerable positions.Whilst legislation does not currently exist to cover
this area, it is advisable that all officials be vigilant with any concerns to be reported to a Making Music Workshop official or responsible person at an event.
- If we are commissioning professional photographers or inviting the press to an activity or event we
ensure that they are clear about our expectations of them in relation to child protection.
- We provide a clear brief about what is considered appropriate in terms of content and behaviour.
- We issue them with identification which must be worn at all times.
- We inform participants and parents that a photographer will be in attendance at an event and ensure they
consent to both the taking and publication of films or photographs.
- We do not allow unsupervised access to participants or one to one photo sessions at events.
- We do not approve photo sessions outside the events or at a participant's home.
