Derry Biography

Gerard Craig

I have been playing acoustic guitar for about 5-6 years and until recently I was teaching myself and I hadn't played in a band.

Over the course of the last year I have begun to get involved with other musicians and I have attended the Sound Live course ran by The Prince's Trust, this included forming a band and putting on a performance on by the end of the week course, everyone was given a dvd of the performance plus recordings of what they had achieved.

Very recently I have began to play on open mic nights, using my own material. I have also recorded a demo.

Fiona Scott-Trotter

I began my musical career from the age of eleven, then I moved on to becoming a Ballet major, winning festivals all over Ireland.

I finished my education at the British Ballet Organisation and I went to work for the National Ballet Company in London.

From there I went on to work in many other theatres and clubs doing live pa and video work.

I opened a school for under privileged children in London for a youth awareness programme. This was voluntary work and had the children working all over England dancing professionally, giving me experience of dancing in many different countries such as Spain, Germany, America and Canada.

I have recorded two singles in Drum and Bass music of Just Another Level record company and I also sang live at my P.A's.

I began to sing Jazz music ten months ago and I am resident in two venues, Sunday nights at Grace Neills, Donaghadee and The Old Cross Inn, Newtownards. I also sing with a Salsa band as a backing vocalist, The Ulster folk Orchestra and The Giant Steps Jazz band.

I have appeared in Jazz festivals in Limavady, Londonderry, Belfast and recently at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and hope to appear in the Cork Jazz Festival in October.. I am currently working on an album which i hope will be out around Christmas time.

Kevin Healy

I have been playing piano for almost 6 years now and enjoy playing a range of different styles from classical to rock.

Currently I am studying for a BMus Honours degree at the Magee Campus of University of Ulster, which lasts for three years and with this I hope to pursue a career in the music industry.

As well as performing, I like to experiment with song writing and I have had some experience working in a recording studio, so watch this space!

Joanne Heaney

I am a singer/songwriter and I have been singing professionally for the last few years. Currently I sing in a bar called "Scence" as part of the group "Hollow", along with a male vocalist Chris Downen. I have also performed in Hotels and festivals. Recently I performed on BBC Radio Foyle.

When I am writing music I like to keep my options open, I like to write easy listing, up tempo country and sometimes rock and pop. I also feel that I am able to adapt my voice to suit a varirty of styles.

I hope eventually to develop myself as a new country pop artist and bring out my own album at the beginning of next year.

As I am a talented and confident person, I will make it as a singer, as I will not stop until you are buying my C.D

 Carol Kelly

Previous to this course I've been part of my local church worship team. I've attended Worship conferences in Belfast which involved tutorials in song writing, singing and band setups, taken by Kathryn Scott, Matt Redman, Robin Mark and Paul Baloche. I also performed at the Caw community centre before with The Making Music Workshop, and we spent three days learning eight cover songs which we performed on Foyle radio. I also attended the Derry Bites Centre at another of The Making Music workshop courses.

I have been writing my own material for the last year and performed some of it within my church. I have also taken up the keyboard which in time I hope to master.

My hope is to form a Christian band in my local area to work on original songs which I have already written. I also hope that I can bring something fresh and sincere to music and I believe that this is an achievable goal in the future.

Music can touch the hearts of millions and my aim is to use this form of communication, using meaningful lyric content to reach my audience.

Paul Harkin

I have been playing the guitar since I was fourteen and I have been playing in bands from the age of sixteen, including "Cresendo" and "AfterShock" and I have performed in gigs in a number of bars including "The Bound For Boston".

Shane Martin

I was born on the 12th September 1986. I got my guitar for Christmas in 2002 and began to teach myself, with a little help from my friends. I found it difficult to find time to practice as I had exam at school, but after leaving and going to work as a summer camp leader, then as a butcher, I decided to settle down with music once again and I began to take some classes. I am hoping to get into NWIFHE to do music technology and I one day hope to work in the music industry.

Marty McCloskey
