The Extended Schools Project

Music Workshop is designed to bring a real musical experience to the people of Ireland while maintaining the ethos that learning can be fun. It provides access to learning and experiencing musical performance through the delivery of a range of high quality musical services.The Extended School projects are after school, evenings and weekend workshops. They can be used to tackle issues or as a tool for personal development. The Music Workshop facilitates this using the vehicle of music. The key concepts covered are:· Creativity · Improvisation · Composition · Music Technology

The workshops can include the following:· Song writing · Recording · Rock and Pop music theory · Master classes · Performance · Music technology · Web design · Business information · Marketing for performance

Extended School workshops can last for two hours or more with the service lasting up to a year leading to a number of activities such as:· · Producing a website · · Producing a CD · Performance concert.  Additionally composition projects allow The Music Workshop to engage young people in dealing with issues that relate to them for example:· Conflict resolution · Bullying · Social exclusion · Anti-social behaviour Songs exist in the open market place which tackle these issues such as:· Sunday Bloody Sunday - U2 · I Predict A Riot - Kaiser Chiefs · The Island - Paul Brady · Alternative Ulster - Stiff Little · Fingers · Another Brick In The Wall - · Pink Floyd

EarlyYears Singer-songwriter Early Years workshops are designed to bring a real musical experience to primary school children within Northern Ireland, while maintaining the ethos that learning can be fun. It provides access to learning and experiencing musical performance through the delivery of a high quality musical service.

The Early Years workshops are during or after school projects. They can be used to tackle issues or as a tool for personal development. The Music Workshop facilitates this using the vehicle of music. The key concepts covered are: Creativity Improvisation Composition. The workshops run over a period of three sessions lasting for three hours. The children will form a choir and learn to write their own songs working directly with a professional singer-songwriter, a musical tutor and your own school’s teacher. The outcome of this is a CD recorded of the song, of which everybody involved gets a copy.We find that the self-esteem gained by young people who attend our events, share in the achievements
